If your pups love going on walks, I am sure they all do, then investing in the best dog-walking gear will make your walks just a little bit more pleasant.

My go-to walks always involve the dog beaches whenever I can, but you can use this on almost any outing!

Quick Breakdown:

Walking your dog daily is essential for their well-being.

We should all know that by now. However, finding the right walking gear is just as important and mostly overshadowed.

Of course, it also depends on how far you plan on walking your dog.

For example, if you plan on walking your dog just a couple of blocks, you may not need to bring as much.

If you’re walking, walking, or jogging miles on the beach or anywhere then maybe you should invest in a couple more essentials.

Why Dog Walking is Essential

According to a source, dogs should be getting anywhere from 30 min-1 hr of walking.

Again, it all depends on the size and breed of the dog you have.

Most people don’t realize how important it is that your dogs stay sane and healthy too.

After all, like humans, dogs need their daily exercise to help make them feel their best.

If you cannot find the time to walk a dog then maybe hiring a dog walker is something you should invest in.

With plenty of dog walkers on Rover and Wag, there is no reason why your dog is not getting its daily exercise.

Many people have been very keen on making dog walking an essential business.

As a personal story, I always take my dog to the beach or even to the park.

Whatever outing I choose to take my dog I always make sure I have the essentials. Not only for them but for me as well.

Top 10 Essential Things you need to check your Dog-Walking Gear List off

Heavy Duty Leash, Harness or Dog Walking Belt

Having a good leash, to begin with, is probably one of the most essential things to bring.

I prefer to bring two leashes just in case one fails me or something happens.

I have also seen people use dog walking belts which is a leash that is strapped around your waste.

Doggy Poop Bags

Nobody likes seeing dog feces on trails or beaches, or worse even stepping on them.

Not only being a responsible dog owner is important but knowing that dog feces is actually harmful can help prevent diseases and run off to our local beaches.

Also, picking up your dog feces is a must! Though, I know if you didn’t care you probably wouldn’t be reading this.

Dog Training Pouch

Since high peak distractions are one of the hardest things you can do, making sure you have some of the yummy treats in hand may help you regain the focus of your pup.

It always helps me!

Though it’s always a challenge. Try it at your local beaches! Your pups may thank you.

Water + Food Collapsible Bowl

Dogs will need a lot of water. Just like us, humans do. So make sure you’re packing enough for both you and them.

Making sure to invest in lightweight portable containers is one of the best things you can do.

When I go walking I always make sure I have things in hand. Never fails.

Name Tag ID

This is probably one of the most important things ever. It’s important to have a nametag on your dog.

Your dog can get lost at the beach or when you’re walking. One day I lost my pup when I decided to use the bathroom.

If I had a name tag that day, I am sure I would have gotten a phone call right away.

I was almost frantic calling her like crazy. It happens. Just make sure you are prepared. You can easily get these done anywhere.

Dog Walking Bag

There are different dog walking bags that you can buy to serve a purpose. One is a dog walking bag or backpack.

This is where you are carrying the dog in your bag.

I personally never tried this since my dogs were too big, but I have seen people carry their mini toy dogs in bags.

While I find it more effective to have your dog exercise, you can opt for one of these too If you like.

Doggy Backpack

I have seen some dogs actually carry this to the beach or hiking.

It’s convenient for putting lightweight items such as collapsible water bowls and doggy poop bags.

I wouldn’t recommend over stuffing it with things. Like us, dogs can only carry so much.  For some people, it works but for others, it doesn’t.

Doggy Sunscreen

Whether you’re walking the beach or any park be sure to think twice before having your pup walk the hot pavement or sand.

Whether you have cute dog boots for your pup or Sunscreen for the Asphalt. Either works. Just make sure you have it.

Reflective gear or lights for evening walks

I actually invested in a reflective leash that was amazing. It lasted me many years and I believe it is more important to use especially when you are walking your dog in the evening.

GPS Tracker

If you’re going to the beach, it may be a good idea to get this.

As a personal story, one day at the dog beach my pup got away.

I had asked a friend to watch her while I went to the bathroom. Of course, she was gone and nowhere to be found.

Unfortunately, I later found her after frantically asking many people if they saw a cocker spaniel roaming around.

Long story short, I should have taken my pup with me on a leash or had a GPS tracker. It would have made things so much easier.

Other Things:

  • Lots of water
  • Extra Food
  • Treats
  • A picture of updated vaccinations

Is Dog Walking Insurance a Must?

If you’re a professional dog walker and have used dog walking as a business then it may be time you start investing in dog walking insurance.

Dog walking insurance is meant to cover fees in accidental coverage such as medical bills and other legal costs.

Depending on what kind of dog insurance you want prices to range anywhere from $130 – $450 per year. In case a pup your walking gets sick, or bites someone, it is always a good idea to have this as a backup plan.

Conclusion

Having the right dog-walking gear may make your outing just a little bit easier. With the right stuff in hand, you may just have a more pleasant experience.

Dogs like many of us enjoy the outdoors, but since dogs depend on our existence there are a couple of things we humans can do to make both our dogs and our lives just a little bit better.

Everyone has different dog walking regimes. Some people love going to the beach and most of my dog walks consist right there.

Other times if you’re going on a longer hike then just remember that hiking gear for dogs may look just a little bit different.

Whatever it is you’re looking to do, make sure you have a good dog leash, along with other simple things like water and food. Making sure certain things are checked off is probably one of the reasons many people fail to double-check.

Having the right dog-walking gear is more than just a leash or harness. It really does depend on what kind of walk you’re taking your pup to. Whatever it is you choose to do make sure your pup is well prepared for whatever walk.
